The Ariel technique, loosely translated as "spirit of air", was invented by Gustav Bergkvist in 1936 and is considered the absolute most difficult glassblowing technique. Ariel is an art glass developed from the grail technique. In the ariel technique, a glass blank consisting of several layers of different color layers is processed on the surface of the surface. The result is characterized by the fact that, in addition to patterns in different colors, differently shaped air bubbles are included that form formations around the colored patterns.
The name Ariel comes from the air spirits in Shakespeare's The Tempest.
