The curlew is Europe's largest wader With a length of up to 55 cm and a wingspan of about 100 cm, the curlew is the largest wader in Europe.
Its teasing song starts with desolate tones and turns into rhythmic bubbling sounds. Many people associate it with the melancholy beauty of the Swedish summer landscape.
The curlew is highly endangered in Sweden due to the loss of natural grasslands and bogs. It is therefore also a symbol of biodiversity and the need to preserve open landscapes.
