Anchor end

An anchor is a device in a building that holds different parts together by an inlaid iron. In this way, timber and iron beams are anchored to an adjoining masonry by attaching anchors to the beams. The anchor bar is usually terminated with a forged loop. Anchors and anchor ends were made on older buildings from bar iron that was forged into the desired shape. Anchor ends are often visible on facades, especially in older buildings. They are usually decorative, shaped like letters, dates or geometric figures. An anchor beam is a beam fitted with anchor bars and an anchor end.
