Players Glowing

Players (Glowing ) is an exclusive art glass created by Micke Johansson - the master of the Ariel and Graal techniques. The piece is 29 cm high and 18 cm wide, and blown with the Ariel technique, where the movement of the air is captured in the interior of the glass and creates a living game of light and structure. The accompanying LED-lit plinth highlights the color shifts of the glass and gives the piece a glowing presence in the room.

Micke Johansson is both a designer and a glassblower - an unusual combination in the Swedish tradition - which gives him total control over both idea and execution. He began his career at Orrefors glassworks and was soon recognized as a natural phenomenon in the craft. Micke has refined the Ariel technique to a level where he is the only one in the world to master it in double Ariel form - a method where several layers of air and glass interact to create a poetic depth.

The name Players suggests movement, interaction and presence - like actors on a stage or energies in a room. Micke Johansson sees glass as a living material, where every pocket of air is a breath, every color change a feeling. The work is a tribute to the origins of the Ariel technique - where "Ariel" means the spirit of the air, inspired by Shakespeare's play The Tempest. It is a meeting of tradition and innovation, where glass becomes a medium for both light and story.
