Co Derr Birds

Co Derr (1921-2011) was born in Amsterdam, Holland but lived in Sweden since the 1950s. He trained as a sculptor at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam, where he was taught by Le Corbusier and Gerrit Rietveld. Co Derr has received many awards and great reviews for many of his works. He appeared at the Olympic Games Art Exhibition in London in 1948, which gave him an Olympic medal. Co Derr also received a lot of attention for his "nesting" birds on the Dutch war memorial and the panels of the American line ships. After his move to Sweden in the 1950s, he also got great success here. Later, Co Derr became the responsible curator at the Arts and Crafts at Stockholms Kulturhus, where many great exhibitions have been created. The last years of his life, Co Derr returned to the creation, mainly in the summer studio in Öland, but also at Kalmar Art Museum, Design Center Nybro, Öland's museum Himmelsberga, Nord Form Liljevalchs, Form i Centrum and others. Other appointments as Honorary Member of the Association of Swedish Craftsmen and Industrial Designers KIF. Represented e.g. at MoMa, Museum of Modern Art, New York
